This should put Tmoneyeagles over the edge....LOL J/K Here is an example of an 1911 ? $5 Half Eagle Enamelled coin. The artist has sratched out the mint mark I'm not sure why he/ she did that but it was removed from the coin. I owned 6 of these at one time ......most were made into cuff links, necklaces, pins jewelry items. I saved this one for the wife as a necklace. One of the other 5 I sold was an 1911 D. The buyer purchased it from me to fill a hole in his collection of $5 Indians. I have since sold off all but this enamelled coin. I know enamells are big collector items in Europe not so much in the country but, there are a few big collections in the U.S. & Canada. A Good beginners guide to these gems would be IW Chick " Little Gems " A Collection & History Of Enamelled Coins & Tokens from 1800's -1920's. Some of these coins bring big price tages....
Well way to put me over the edge, and it isn't even 7:00 o clock central time! LOL I think the coin, looks ugly. I would have no problem owning one of these for my personal collection (without the coloring of course) and I could even see myself wearing it as a jewelry piece, but the coloring. YUCK I hope that quarter eagle I'm buying isn't colored. LOL P.S. Form the pics, it looks like the nose is a little jacked up, kinda like a michael jackson nose, is it just the pics, or something else?
I had a $2.50 enamelled eagle that was OMG outstanding...I never seen one like it before and have not seen one like it since I sold it. I'm really sorry I sold it! One of the best enamells I have even seen. It was perfect! Any way T Good Morning ! LOL
You find this coloring 100% attractive, and you think it adds to the coin? I think it ruins the originality, and makes it look ugly. But hey, if you like it..
No not really just kept this one to have one enamelled coin around. The truth of the matter is the wife almost never wears it as a necklace. She has several coin necklaces she does wear . Also onced enamelled the coin is ruined. I also had several U.S. coins that I have sold... one Morgan that the rev was enamelled . I had quite a few Florins, double Florins, crowns,Half crowns...etc. I got tired of them and sold them off mostly to a collector in Boston some sold in the UK.
Here is the last 4 I sold of the enamelled coins I had in my collection. I guess I have deleted the other pictures of the better ones I had.
mmmmmmmmm....I don't think so....this coin could bring as much as book if not more depending on the collector and their wants and needs. The 1911 D I sold for over $900.usd I sold two others for $750.00 each! You be surprized as to what these coins will bring.
I can see a premium for the other pieces that you showed, nice quality stuff. But, the $5? It looks fairly unsophisticated compared to the others.
Actually Frank they were the low end of my enamells. The Florins and crowns 1/2 crowns and U.S. coin were worth lots more than the 4 of these put together. The Gold & others were fun to own for awhile but like I said I grew tired of them and sold them. Only kept the one for the wife. do a search on e bay both U.S. and UK and see what they bring. The newer ones are less collectable where the 1800's to 1920's are the high dollar items.
Not so fond of the enamel job on the Indian but the others you showed are beautiful. They almost look like enamelled medals.
LOL...Post reminds me of the thread we had a few weeks ago about Grandma's toilet seat with a bunch of old Morgans embedded in it. Traci
Was this the thread were Tmoneyeagles was wearing the toilet seat as a hat? LOL now that's UGLY LOL!!!
