I need help with the grade and approximate value of this coin. I put an arrow in ink on the mylar window of the 2x2 so that you have a reference point from one side to the other, since it looks like it is a 180 degree rotated die error. your input is appreciated. CJD
I'm getting the infamous Error 404 on both of your links. The 1911 Canadian 5-center is 1.1620g of sterling (.925 silver), valued in Krause at $1.25 VG-8, $2 F-12, $4 VF-20, $8 XF-40, $50 MS-60, and $85 MS-63. Krause doesn't say whether it was struck in coin alignment or medal alignment, but I know that some Canadian coins are in medal alignment, so yours may or may not have a rotated die.
Thanks! P.S. does your handle mean what I think it means? My wife went to vet school and they used "bohica" as a rather vulgar (and extremely funny) acronym for how they felt about finals week. (I'm just glad that I never had any 4 hour cumulative finals like she did!)
The_Cave_Troll,the 1911 5c. coin from Canada is affectionately known as a 'Godless' coin,as the abbreviation 'DEI GRA' (by the Grace of God) has been omitted from the King's titles.Naturally, the people complained,so a modified obverse was in use from 1912.The rarest date in King George V silver 5c. coins is the 1921.The Newfoundland 50c. of 1911 has 'DEI GRA' in the King's titles, however.
