This was a fun find, especially as the reverse was showing on the end of the roll! I couldn't help but let my intense curiosity rip it open to see if it was "the" VDB. Obviously it is not an "s", but I am tickled nonetheless. I have searched through hundreds of dollars in pennies in the past ten years, and have finally found a first year wheat cent. Question: Would you try to clean off what appears to be the beginning of corrosion or let it be? If you would, how would you do it?
Just me. I would not mess with the coin. There are some products out there that would help but not worth the cost for this coin. It looks just fine the way it is.
I'd treat it with VerdiCare, but that's because I already have the stuff on hand. I agree with @ldhair that it's not worth buying and shipping a bottle for this one coin, but if you're searching a lot and finding more keepers that have verdigris, you should probably get some. You can go back and treat this coin later.
I put a bottle in my watch list on eBay. I have a few better date Buffalo nickels that could use some help plus some metal detecting finds. I may try it out in the future. Thanks!
I think it might be worth it to have a bottle of VerdiCare on hand, for those few coins that could use it.
I’d try to get it off if I could. Can’t really tell in these pics how stuck-on it is. VDB is a fantastic find in a bankroll, I agree.
