Okay, I am going to post two scans [these are flatbed scans mind you so you cannot see the beauty in each one's actual color and tone]....

I need an opinion. The bright flaming penny [no color adjustment, exactly as it is scanned in :)] has vdb on it. I'm fairly new to coin collecting. However, VDB DOES NOT stand out very well. It appears to have been 'greased' or a grease filled die in that area if I understand correctly. Now, my question is, would PCGS accept this for grading? Or would they slab it error and assign no grade to it?

You can sort of see it how there's a distinguishable trail of /\/\\/\/\\\/\/ curving over and up to the left on the reverse.... Ah, and the coin on the left, the obverse is super fantastically toned. Don't know how or why it got that way, but it's definitely interesting, especially since it has retained most of it's cartwheel luster so along with the toning, it makes for an interesting wobble ;)

It actually looks like a cut or a bad bag mark.

After re-examining it, you could be right. It's strange though, it doesn't seem much to go beyond the surface, if you know what I mean. I'm going to flip it around and take another scan. I think I see a similar issue on the vdb on the left as well but closer to the rim. So to try and divert the shadows on the upper part of the coin, I'll try a rescan and see if there's a difference in detail.

See the similarity now? Would this drastically reduce the grade received by submitting; would they accept it for grading; should I just body bag them into an album and forget about them?

I see nothing that would prevent either of those coins from being graded.

If you look at the "VDB" on my 09-S VDB, I believe its barely noticable and PCGS graded it. I dont think either that you'll have any trouble.
