Got this cent recently and upon close inspection, there are a few red flags. Would appreciate any comments.

    Diameter and weight are correct.

Is that just a well-placed anomaly on the bottom of the bust?

Yeap, with all the raised metal under forehead, issues behind the eye and weird letters, I pretty much had no doubt when checked with loupe. The dot position of D. in "V.D.B." is also wrong.

Its from eBay, time to get the money back or open dispute. 1st time in 5-6 years. Seller sells other stuff, not just coins, might have been a honest mistake.

Thanks a lot for quick replies.

On the 1909's from Philly, the dot after the D can be either close or in the middle. The only ones where it makes a difference are the proofs and the S VDB.

    Thanks, rlm's cents.

Not sure why the images in 1st post not showing, here they are again.

Had to send it back to get a refund.

And to my new question, without opening a new thread, since it`s kind of on the same topic.

Anyone here thinks this coin is NOT a fake? Being sold on eBay right now, ending in 6d 08h, Current bid: US $76.6, 13 bids.

The coin does look like it might have been doctored.

Definitely fake. I would think it was cast.

Same here. No way that's real.

It's discouraging to see a relatively inexpensive item (1909 vdb) being faked.

    It's an S-VDB.

First (my photos) is 1909 VDB, second (some eBay seller) is 1909S VDB.

I sent a message to the seller, his answer was "Thanks!" but thats it. Item still live, current bid: US $152.50 23 bids.

I could make a better fake out of play dough

Completely fake! Looks like they're trying to not only cash in on the SVDB now.

  17. That S mint mark looks fake.
