Hi everyone, forgive me if this is obvious to some, but I need some advice on this 1909-S VDB , the VDB just looks off to me, can anyone confirm if this coin is genuine or a counterfeit? Thank you!

Definitely fake. Not even a good fake. The reverse is way wrong like they used bubble letters or something. Mintmark is also wrong.

Obvious fake, unfortunately. Lettering and MM are off.

No reason to apologize, sir. It's better to be safe than sorry.

As for the "coin", I have to agree with the gentlemen above.

I think the periods in the V.D.B. are way too large.

I know some of yall are probably tired of it; but I can't pass up a chance to pull my 1909 S VDB Overlay Tool out. I agree it is fake.

S looked bad. Way too straight. VDB looked bad. Reverse looked bad.

It's a great little tool and you do an excellent job. The only problem I could see is that there can be more to it, particularly when it comes to authentication since counterfeits can exhibit proper placements. :)

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

    The obverse looks way wrong.

The reverse looks like a cartoon.

There's no reason to pull out fancy overlays on this one - there is a 100% chance that is a really bad fake.

Even if you don’t like slabs, that’s one coin to buy slabbed and certified as genuine.

True but it can be a good first step and it will probably eliminate close to 90% of the fakes commonly encountered. For that other 10% other steps are needed.

Yes, hence the "can" part. ;)

The tool will only authenticate a counterfeit and/or eliminate 3 of the 4 possible 1909-S VDB dies to attribute.
