Hi folks. I posted a few days back about an 1857 flying eagle cent with strange stampings that I found in a penny collection my grandma gave to me. So I looked further and found a 1909-S indian head cent that looks to be in decent condition. From the research I've done this is one of the lowest mintage cents ever produced. I took it to a local coin shop and he verified that it is real. I didn't think to ask him what grade he thought it was (he offered me $350). Here is a picture of both sides cropped together. I am not a collector and was curious what you fine people thought the grade was and where I could sell it for the most $$ or should I wait for values to rise?
    Thanks

I'll take a stab and say VG+? Nice find man, very nice! :thumb: I'm not sure on the grade, but still a nice coin IMHO. :thumb:

Looks better than a VG to me. I'd go with F-12 to F-15. Lots of details on the reverse especially. PCGS guide lists $520 in F-12, though they are a bit high; so I'd guess its worth around $450 to $500. $350 is low, but probably not unfair coming from a dealer. I'm no expert though, so just take my opinion for what it is until the experts speak.

I would go with VG8 as the word Liberty cannot be seen clearly. Even so, I'd say $400. i would love to have that coin.

Looks like some PVC or verdigris on the reverse. Would go VG range. Numismedia is 500 range, CVonline is about 700 ( would look at 70% = about 500 range). I would ask $525 ( as toad said, nice rims) and sell for $450 as is. Actually, I would keep it to be truthful as keys will always be solid sellers. Would put in some acetone and see if it was pvc gunk or verdigris, or photo effect.

Nice coin. If you put it up for sale/auction, let us know

hmm. I still say its a solid fine after comparing it to some certified ones. But we're each entitled to our opinions. Here is an NGC VG-10 and F-12, and the one by the OP has stronger details than both in my opinion. Grading is always subjective though. I agree about the verdigris on the reverse, i didnt notice that before. You might consider sending it into ANACS or NCS.

A solid nice FINE, but with the issues indicated. Vertigris or PVC.

Definitely Fine. The $350 dealer offer is about where it should be but you could add $200 to that with a private (ebay) sale.
