Ok, Here is the 09S I have been looking for. It is slabbed. ( I think its graded a tad high, but I paid right for what I think the grade is. any educated or uneducated guesses?

It looks like an ANACS holder, probably F-12, should be VG-8+
    Also, environmental.

I'm going to assume that the picture quality on these is not the best, and from that guess a F-12, if the pics are entirely accurate maybe vg-10 then.

How about F-12. Very nice coin. :)

Nice coin! I agree with you that it seems to be overgraded by a bit. I can't tell from the scan how LIBERTY looks but even if it is nice and strong I would have only pegged it at VF.

Nice coin - but I would peg it a vf20(assuming all of liberty is readable). I just can't see how the whole weak strike features of the 1909 play into this grade. I think everyone overgrades the 1909-S's. My is graded VF-30, but I think it is solid VF20(liberty is readable but weak).

Is the 1909S the only date in Indian Head Cents that carry a mintmark?

1909S only 309,000 made, smallest mintage of the series. 1908S 1,115,000 made. This is the 3rd lowest mintage but as you can see much higher than the 1909S so not as high of value.

Well....I would say that the 1909-S is about the 2nd hardest. The 1877 IHC is the hardest one I think. I've been collecting for about 7 years and have only seen 2 1877 cents in person.

The new picture on the right definetly shows enough detail to be VF30/XF40, so with the weak strike associated with 1909-S I can see where they came up with XF45. Still is a nice coin!

I had it as a Strong VF, Weak XF. Thats what I paid for. I didn't argue the grade with the guy, just the price. : )

It's a nice coin. I would put the coin at VF personally. The 1909-S Indians aren't normally struck that well, and they tend to be given a little bit of a key date bump in grade (read that as they are often overgraded  ).

    Congrats on the purchase!
