1909 Indian head proof? What is with the "E"?

    Folks, please let me know what you think of this 1909 Indian Head

    Also please look at a close up of the E on ONE on the back...there is a lot of extra metal inside the E.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks - any guess on 1) is it proof 2) whats the grade and 3) what is with the extra metal?

    extra metal: very coman. grade: most likely AU 66 or somthing close. is it a proof?: most likely not.

    Nice high AU coin , not a proof . Looks to be a small die crack above the right wreath on the reverse . Extra metal probably MD , but I'm no expert on doubling .

    Could be Longacre doubling. And I agree with rzage - it is not a Proof.

    I agree with Hobo it looks like Longacre doubling.

    I agree with Dutchman agreeing with Hobo.

    Here is my example of the Longacre doubling on a 1903.
