Half Eagles were minted in Denver in 1909. The coin is in an NGC slab so that would be an indication it is genuine (assuming the slab is not counterfeit).

Well i was thinking that about the holder, but thought i would ask just to be safe. I really like this coin. Im thinking about getting it. Even though red book is listed at 175 for VF-20. This would be my first. Not bad for the first one if i get it, unless someone thinks this is a BAD buy???

That price (Bid / Ask) is for XF (the grade on the slab).

Here's a link to the CoinFacts sheet on the 1909 D $5. Also keep in mind that the Greysheet prices are supposed to be dealer to dealer prices.

You bought a nice coin. Be happy and enjoy what you now own. Savor it for a while.

keep in mind, when it comes to coins like these... you can get coins for those prices, usually quite common, too.
