Hello all! I have this 1908-S Indian head penny and was taking a closer look at the mint mark and seems to be a bit thicker and doubling around parts of it. I compared it to one PCGS graded coin that was an MS63 and the mint mark seemed to resemble it to me but what do you guys think? Or just regular S? Thank you!
This looks like a new variety. It is different than anything in Richard Snow's Attribution Guide. It is also a very nice coin.
Some things to think about. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, TPGs don’t verify new varieties. They will attribute known varieties, and some have limited recognition lists. If you think this may be a undiscovered RPM, I would recommend contacting Rick Snow. I personally think it’s MD due to the reduction of the upper curve of the S (based on the pictures and JMHO). This is a nice coin and is highly sought after. It would be a lot easier to sell and probably bring more if was graded.
Yea I think your right they only go off the list that they have for their own companies grading system. That probably would be the best thing, I checked his website to see their contact info.
Well if anyone is interested this coin and a few others will be added to my eBay page around 7:05pm PST. I made a forum in the “for sale” section with all the info to get to my store.
