    Hi CT,

Here is another coin I purchased at the NH Coin Expo.

These photos looked pretty good when I took them, but now look pretty bad. Ugh (these were quick iPad photos). The coin is no where near as orange as the photo -- it is more of a mocha color. Liberty is clear & strong, and all four diamonds are complete. The white speck on the reverse (around 8:00) is not on the coin, and at 11:00 on the reverse is a tiny fiber -- not a scratch.

What I wonder about is the grime/spot/whatever at 3:00 on the obverse. Any ideas about what, if anything, I should do about it?

What grade would you give it?

    Thanks again!

Can't get a good feel for the coin from the pictures - but looks AU to me. Almost looks like a carbon spot on the reverse at 3 o'clock.

I would agree with AU condition though it does look cleaned

I think the scans make it look more washed out - just too hard to say at this point.

It is a nice coin. I would go with a high AU.

From the image, I'm at AU-50.

Looks to have some nice AU details for sure, but there seems to be no luster whatsoever. An AU coin shouldn't look that flat unless it's just the photo or if the coin was messed with in the past (recolored or cleaned).

By the way, I have several graded 1908-S Indian Cents you could compare with in the link in my signature line :)

Illini420 -- Thanks for the link to the grading set. Very cool.
The "in hand" color & condition of my 1908-s are quite similar to those of the AU58 BN in the registry set. The iPad was not the right tool to photograph with!

    Thanks again.

Thank you all for your opinions -- they are much appreciated. I apologize again for the quality of the photos. I need to figure out how to take better macros.

Right now the coin is in an Air-Tite. My hope is that the reverse 3:00 spot is nothing to be concerned about. Not sure if it is grime or a carbon/sulphur spot.
