Wondering if I overpaid for this... will you all take a look and give opinions on grade & value? I promise to tell what I spent afterward ;) I think the pics are decent enough.

I'm thinking F15 or VF20, but the obverse appears to have been cleaned- see how the light and dark areas around the date and stars are separated by squared off lines?

    I happen to have a couple 1908-S IHCs ;)

Take a look at my 1908-S Grading set and compare yours to how PCGS grades these.

I happen to think yours is about a VF30 and if certified it would sell for around $125 or so. Can't tell from your photos whether the surfaces are original or whether the coin has been messed with though. In any event, not a bad 1908-S.

I agree about the appearance of being cleaned.

The photos make me question the originality of the surfaces. However, I would like to see the coin in-hand to make a more accurate and educated determination....Mike

I'd say, IMO, VF 30. Maybe $100 raw if not cleaned. The first obverse photo like like it may have been cleaned. While in the second obverse photo, the light washes out any indication of the darkening around the raised features, like the date and feathers of the bonnet. So, better photos are needed.

    VF+ (okay, okay VF-30).

OK all, I paid $110 for it on the seller's grade of fine, as part of a set of 20 IHC's including an 1860 and 1862 copper/nickel in fine as well. Couldn't get him to sell those 3 from the set so bought the shole works for $210. Will post the copper nickel ones as soon as I can get a half decent pic.
