1908 Gold 2/1 Dollar Proof?...

    Hi, I have a 1908 21/2 Dollar gold coin. It seems to be in the original box from the mint. Does anyone know if they did indeed ship in a red 2"x2" velvet lined box from the mint back in 1908. Its a pretty high quality coin.

    Typically no they did not. But there were sometimes some special presentation sets given to dignitaries.

    We need pics of the coin and pics of the box, inside and out.

    If your coin is a Proof it will be a Matte Proof with very sharp details but a sandblasted finish.
