The Standard Catalog of World Coins by Krause & Mishler is a set of telephone book-sized volumes covering the 17th, 18th, 19th, and 20/21st Centuries. The general reference "Krause" usually means the current volume (2005 is 32nd Ed.), and other volumes are usually referred to by their century. The current edition is updated annually, the others every several years. Older editions (except for the 30th Ed. current book, which should be avoided) can often be found on EBay, or at Amazon or Barnes & Noble used book sections, and unless you need information on the most recent years, or the most up-to-date pricing, the older editions are perfectly usable. Krause values are iffy at best, as they are known to be very low in some areas, very high in others, and about right in some. Krause is an invaluable resource for world coins. Along with detailed information on coins, including their size, weight, composition, precious metal content, and mint and mintage information there are numerous aids to identification, a chart of dating characters in various languages, and on and on and on.
The coin depicts King Idris of Libya, who was overthrown by Colonel Gaddhafi in 1969.He died in 1983 in Egypt.
