I have read recently that there are some Fake Sovereign coins, that are made from real gold?

I was wondering if someone could tell me if my sovereign is authentic or not. If it is, I would like to know the value of these 2 coins.

    Cheers,
    Rylan

I don't see anything to concern me about that sovereign. It looks the right colour, has clearly been struck and struck well with a clear design. Its usually difficult to authenticate sovs by photos, but this photo is a quality one, although I doubt there will ever be a substitute for seeing the real thing in person..

Thank you for your reply. Do sovereigns such as this one have any collector's value, or is it just worth melt value?

    Cheers,

Sovereigns do carry a bit of a premium over spot. You'll usually find them for 10-15% above spot, but that all depends on date, condition, mintmark, e.t.c.

The large cent is around VG, but that line is distracting. It's worth about $3-$4

As the previous poster stated, yes they do. This is especially the case with one in the above condition which looks to be approaching EF-ish to me. It won't be a rare or scarce grade unless its a Canadian Sovereign ('C' mintmark under St George's Horse) from 1908, 1909 or 1910.

Although even an ordinary sovereign of good-fine (VG in American) condition ('bullion grade') will carry a premium over spot, or at least the tiniest of discounts if you are selling to a dealer...
