My friend Bill found this 1905-p indian head cent while metal detecting in New Hampshire. He doesn't collect coins even casually -- yet but I'm working on him. My grade for this cent is VG-8. I'd like your opinions please. THANKS! ZEKE

In my opinion, it most likely would grade F-15 since, although they are faint, you can see complete letters of all of Liberty, which is one grading criteria for Indian cents. If all of the letters in Liberty were there but not complete, then it would grade F-12. If they were more bold, it would grade VF.

Oh! So this could make XF right?

The last curl of hair needs a little more detail for an XF.

Details, maybe. The coin, however, has surface issues (corrosion), IMO.

More likely a high end VF since there is no separation between the ribbon and the curl.

    my grade would be 35

to be xf-40 it must have clear seperation of the ribbon and the hair, and to make choice xf-45, most dates will need 4 full diamonds....

not quite xf but a nice coin
