I have this 1905 IH and I can not find info on misplaced dates for the year. It is not noted in the CPG. or on that I can find on coppercoins.com

In the pics you can see the flag of the five on the rim.

    what do you think?

From FLynns " Two dates are better than one" book, it appears to be MPD-002 from the rather small photo. There are 6 for this year that has a "5" being misplaced into the denticles. However, none are the "5" by itself, there is always another one or more numeral of the date involved. For instance the MPD-002, also has 2 "0"s in the denticles left of the Primary "0", that are harder to see, and I can't even guess from the photos. If you have a good loupe or scope, go carefully across the denticles from left of the "1" to right of the "5", checking for disturbances.

p.s. This book is an excellent one to have for misplaced dates.

The denticles to the right of the "0" would show an edge that arches slightly upward in the space between the denticles compared to the sight dip towards the rim that would be normal between them. The slight arch up would be the top of an additional "0".

Now that I enlarge your photo, I see you marked the "0" and the "5". It does appear it is MPD-002. I hadn't noticed the thin red lines before. The one on the left indicates the extra "0"s. According to the photo in the book, there are 2 arches there, one almost level with the top of the denticles, and one about 10% lower in the space. A lighter photo of that area might show both. Congratulations on the find.

Any idea how this happened? It seems surprisingly common the have MPD in the denticles, but how could the guy punching the dates have THAT bad of aim so many times?

Not sure how it happens. Maybe they did not have drinking on the job rules back then! :).

The coin is in VF, any idea where I can find the value?

The date was on a single punch, so a single repunch could put as many as the whole date in the denticles, but usually, it was at an angle so some were off the area and not visible. But it really takes a good eye to find them unless they are in the devices such as the ones in the neck of the Indian Head Cent.
