I am having difficulty with my camera right now so these are the best picts I can get right now but I think we get an ok idea of the doubling I would like to know what a coin like this is worth, it is in really nice shape and I would think it would be a collectors item? Any input is welcome.

first off, doubling is a variety, not a error. that being said, there are 3 different doubled die reverses known, none of which carry an additional premium. your coin, imo, appears to be in the grade of fine, which makes it about a $4 coin. still a cool coin, and i would love to have an example like that in my collection, however, the demand is not there to give a larger premium on a 1905 ddr.

    Joshark,

Welcome to the forum! Your coin illustrates "Longacre doubling" or "Hob " or "Punch shoulder" outline. Check here about 16th one down.

It is common on IHC, and can be differentiated from Doubled Die by the doubling being on opposite or all 4 sides of a letter or number. The lettering and the date were added with a gang punch and some ( but not all) feel that striking it too deep, allowed the shoulder of the letter to be expressed. No real increase in value.

Thank you both very much I am saving all the information that I am learning and getting from the more experienced people. This is a wonderful website with many knowledgable people. My intent is to use the information for insurance purposes because I recently inherited my grandmothers and mothers coin collections and I am slowly looking at and trying to identify the coins that I should add to my homeowners in case of a loss of some sort.
    Thank you both again.

A safety deposit box is a good investment as well when you have valuable coins.

You can learn a lot more on these at www.indiancent.com, Rick Snow appears to be the leading expert on these coins at this time. Of course Ken potter is no slouch either.
