My mom has a 1905 $10 gold piece that was passed down to her (and says it will eventually be passed down to me :) )

I just took the pics, so I will be able to post them later.

It's in good condition, just wondering what the value of the coin is.

    thanx

I'd need to see pictures, but it could be worth about $200.
But like I said, I need to see a photo to be more accurate.

When you say good....do you mean good as in the grade good....or do you mean you think it looks good ;)

i'm not great with grades, so i mean it looks appealing. It's still has lustre... but it's not like blinding. There are a few minor nicks here and there... but there seems to be great outlining on everything.

i would have to say that this looks similar to it's quality. click me... click me...

it is the same mint as this one... 1905 S

it's incased, but not graded my pros

The picture is in my girlfriend's camera... i will post tomorrow

we're really not interested in selling it... i'm just more curious as to the value.

i'm assuming this is worth passing down the family as a jem.

Well I don't agree with the XF the seller put on the ebay item...
Post some photos and then we will be able to help...

If it's genuine and in similar condition to the one you posted a link to, then it's probably worth between $200 - $300.

The gold alone in a $10 1905 eagle should be worth ~$300, (560*.589*.9).
560 = gold prices, .589 is oz content of the coin, .9 is % gold in the coin.
    Or did I miss something?

Well, I think that precious metals are normally measured and have values listed by Troy ounces. So, I think that the gold content of the $10 Eagle should be closer to something like .4875 Troy ounces if I remember correctly (not saying I do). So, that would put it at about $273 or so worth of gold at $560 per Troy ounce. So, the coin may be worth a small premium over that, if in VF or XF condition, so maybe $300. But who can really say for sure without seeing it.

Actually, it may have been something like .48375 or similar, can't remember for sure.

here are the pictures... what might be the grade on this coin. Should I have it professionally slabbed?

    Is the REV really rotated??
I would put a grade at VF...and I see no reason to slab it....but that is up to you.

I keep forgetting how much gold has increased lately so I'll change my estimate - it's worth bewteen $250 - $300. No I would not spend the money to have it slabbed.
