    Hello gang !
I just got back from an auction today and I'd figure I'd share this little beauty with you all.
    She's a purdy 1904.

Let's hear your comments and grades on her.
    Look carefully.
    ;)

I would say MS66 in my opinion. How much did you pay?

Edit: Just saw the black around the rim, MS64-65

I am going to go with MS64. Looks really nice!

    The black is toning.
The toning actually looks kind of purple-like over a lot of the coin.
I hope I can get a pic to really capture that.
I can't say the price, it might give it away.

    *hint*
Note the definition of the nose, lips, eagle, and bow/wreath.
The hair above the ear is a little better than the pic shows.

    No more guesses ?
Ryan and Mark are close, but let's just say it's not an MS coin.

Not MS????? Well, it doesn't really look like a proof, so it has to be AU59

    Why might that be ?

The toning makes the fields look a little flat in the pics, but note the colors reflecting on the eagles wings, on the rev.

I apologize for my photography skills.

Well, if it is a proof, then it must be around PR63

That would be correct, at least in my opinion, and that of my dealers.

At first I was gonna say AU58 . The only reason I say AU58 is there appears to be wear on the hair above the ear. lol it rymes But flat spot could be from a weak strike, the feilds on both sides look very clear and all other details are there.
After looking harder Im gonna say Worn die or weak strike. Its a hard call. It is a very nice looking coin. Is it a proof or a weird picture? If its a Proof coin then I say its PF64 PF65.

    She is indeed a proof.
Thank you all for the nice comments.

The hair above the ear has a little more detail than it shows in the pic, but it is still weak when compaired to the rest of the coin.
If not for that hair, It would be a 64/5.
The devices are just SPARKLING and chrome-like in hand.
The look of the devices against the purple-ish toning make for a very interesting coin.
I will continue to try to find the right lighting to get a perfect picture.

With a mintage of only 650 coins the dies were not worn. But quite a few of the coins, even though they are Proofs, can be found with weak strikes. That's very unusal when you consider all Proofs are struck at least twice. The only thing I can attribute it to is that at the time the mint was trying to prevent the issuance of coins with a cameo appearance and thus they were probably striking them with lower pressures.

Personally, I think the TPG's are overly forgiving when grading these particular coins, epsecially PCGS - I'll use this an example - PCGS graded this as PF63.

Admittedly, that particular coin is probably at the extreme end of the spectrum for being vastly over-graded. But it serves as a good example of what I am saying.

I give this a very high grade. I'm not sure about the strike because some breast feather details seem flat, but I think, looking at the whole coin, that this is strike not wear. I give it an MS 68.

I wouldn't have guessed it to be proof. I'm just stupid with Proof Coins though.

Here are some different pics I tried to capture the toning.
Also, I have included a close up of the hair above the ear.
Thanks again for all the comments and info.

Before you get too excited roto go to Heritage and look at other coins graded PF63.
