    To my untrained eye, it sure looks like a double strike, rotated between strikes.

    It could be a double strike but there isnt any sign on the reverse of a second strike. From my understanding, because of the collar die there should also be signs of a second strike on the reverse. Maybe someone else will have a better idea about it.

    If there are no signs of double or triple strikes on the reverse side, I am thinking someone a long time ago had stamped the stars on it. They look to small. I bet the side of the coins edge where the extra stars are, it smashed on the observe side only. just my guess and I am not an expert I really don't know what I am saying.
