I'm trying to learn how to grade and improve my coin photography....... These were taken with IPhone 6. My guess is a solid F..... your thoughts and why?
I would say you are in the right ballpark on that one. Has anyone shared this link with you? https://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/#/Barber25/Grades
Thanks... I found the mobile version this morning! That was my source for determining the grade of the Barber quarter.... thanks again.
One thing I really get annoyed by is people whose first statement on every single coin they see is to declare "cleaned!". However, that being said, when I look at this coin that is my suspicion - it does look cleaned, to my (amateur) eye. It could be just the lighting though - it's the color that makes me think that, because I saw hundreds of cleaned coins yesterday with a similar look. If it is not cleaned, though, via the book guide I've got here "Making the Grade", it looks between a 20 and a 40 somewhere.
Your efforts are far better than many. Your 6 will do better though. Try a napkin between your light source and the coin. Use a coffee cup or mug, with as low as height as your phone will focus and try and use voice control for your shutter. This is evident by the fact your less than ideal background is blurred from movement. This means your coin is too. Find a better background. Something with crisp lines until you get the hang of it. I don't do MAC or IOS, but, if your camera does not have a macro setting, install an app for it. Ibid for the voice control. It should be able to easily bust out 5-7X power pix which would be sufficient to fill your frame with less than the total coin and reveal much more about it than your posted effort.

Lawd knows, it may be one of another ignored and unattributed varieties as the Barber people don't like being bothered with such tedium.
I'm at 10 or 12. It's not important. The coin has a nice look that folks want if building a set. Cleaning is not an issue with this coin.
