I purchased this batch last weekend before I traveled to Germany. I got them from the same old-time collection as my last lot. I plan to visit the guy again tomorrow. Among other things, I plan to purchase his Maundy set. The 1903 Philippines, 1876 Egypt, 1908 Peru, 1906 Spain, and 1893 Guernsey are all mint state. I would grade the Philippine & Egypt coins MS66. Please let me know what you think of them. I will post individual photos & let me know if you want to see anything in particular. Thanks for letting me share. Very best regards, collect89
Again, a great haul. Beautiful coins. BTW, the UNC Egypt 2 qirsh is dated 1907 AD (AH 1293, year 33).
One of your coins is a Japanese 10-sen piece, dated 1910. While it's not a particularly rare date, it's still a nice coin.
He also has an attractive 10-sen with the dragon on it in AU/UNC. I believe the 10 sen with the dragon is from a previous year & I haven't seen too many of them in the past. The cost might be something like $20. With your positive advice, I might buy it tonight. Very best regards, collect89
It would help to know the year or at least have a scan/picture of the coin. Can your computer read Japanese characters? 八十三 1905 七十三 1904 六十三 1903 五十三 1902 四十三 1901 三十三 1900 二十三 1899 一十三 1898 十三 1897 etc.
No my computer does not display Japanese characters. The coin with dragon was dated something between 1900 & 1905. (It was in a 1900-1910 album). I think that I will just buy the coin tonight. It will be an interesting companion to the 10-sen that I already purchased. I'll post a photo when I get it. Very best regards, collect89
Hello Collector1966, This is the 1904 10-Sen coin. I bought it last night as a companion for the 1910 coin. Very best regards, collect89
add 32 for year 33 Thank you for the heads-up about year 33. I now understand that the calculation would be based upon the first year being 1293. Therefore, the 33 year would be calculated by adding 32 (not 33). 1293 + 32 = 1325 = 1907AD Is this correct? Very best regards, collect89
Yes, that's correct. When the date is converted to the Christian calendar, of course there are two years that will come up, depending on what month is chosen. 1907 AD works better as it overlaps more.
