I live in a area where these proud people once resided. The area is between two rivers, the Susquehanna and the Chemung Rivers. There is a area South of my home called the "Carrying point", it is around a mile North of where the two rivers meet....The carrying point was where the Indians would carry their canoes and cargo from one river to the other if they were to continue North on the other river. The distance between the two rivers at the "Carrying Point" is about 300 yards and it would save them about two miles of paddling. This is a beautiful area of Pennsylvania and thousands of Indians lived in the valley until the Sullivan campaign came through the area and killed many of the natives off, sad but necessary for the settlers.
