Hello CoinTalk faithful. I need some help with two things...first, history. I'm a big history buff, yet despite the searching I've done, I'm coming up blank on why a 1901 R Italy 2 Lire coin is so valuable. I see that over 70,000 were minted, yet from what a dealer has told me, apparently less than 50 are estimated to have survived. I would appreciate any reference to what happened to this mintage that you may be able to provide. The next obvious question I have to ask is, what is it's estimated value. I have had it authenticated and graded by one of the leading grading services as an AU 53. I found one example of a coin listed in a 2004 Italian coin sale catalog, in barely legible status, with an asking price of $1,000. Thanks in advance for your help! Scott
