I was just curious about this grading company, and anyone elses opinion on what they think on the grade of
this coin? I just bought it off ebay for $45. It says the pcgs ms 66 price is $3000 It obviously cannot be ms67
then if I got it for $45 right? It would be a 8k to 10k coin at pcgs 67. So I think I just got taken, I made a quick move just in case. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Tommy

Need better pics - based on those you have it looks like a 63 - 64. So I'd say $45 is a bit high.

You have to be very careful buying slabbed coins from "off the wall" grading companies because they're almost always overgraded and overpriced. Three TPGs (Third Party Graders) to feel safe with is PCGS, NGC and ANACS, aka The Big Three. Nice Morgan and I'd have to agree with Doug...low MS, 62-64.

Thank you all! Should I crack it and send it to ngc or pcgs?

I recommend before buying coins from someone like this you first look for the web page of the grading company - See here - look what they say about grading. I can't guess at a grade of those pictures, but it looks to me to be about a MS63. For some reason with the pictures I think - dipped, but I am no where near an expert on this. For something like this I would take it to my local coin shop and see what they say. The dealers I have used sell raw 63's for around $40.

And don't take it to hard - a learning lesson. I made the same mistake with a couple of ACG coins. :) Now any coin I bid on has to have a picture good enough for me to grade by or I request one.

it a pretty coin, you paid what you paid. Does it matter what slab its in? Add it to your growing collection, and that is one less date you will need :)

if the slab bothers you, and you know you are going to keep the coin for years and years... break ti out and slap it in a capitol holder, or by all means submit it. Alot o folks think that if the coin is not worth the slabbing fee then you shouldnt do it, but i disagree to a point. Alot of folks feel more comfortable once their coin has been slabbed. Having a row of all slabs from a grading company looks mighty purdy when compared to a stack of lonely coins :)

its all what you want to do, and how much money you want to spend ;)

Crack it out - yes. Send to PCGS or NGC - maybe. To me it depends on what you want - do you mind investing another $20(and shipping) in the coin for the security of PCGS/NGC graded coin? If yes - then send it in. Of course you may never get the $20 back, but who cares if that is what you want. I just would not send it in thinking I am going to get a MS65/66 back and make 100's of dollars - it sounds like you know this.

Definitely stay away from these lower tier grading services. They overgrade, and the people who sell these coins use the high grades to take advantage of new collectors.

As for your coin, it will depend on how much luster and brilliance is left on the coin, as the coin was likely dipped. The coin may be a 63/64, so you didn't overpay too much, but didn't get a great deal either.

I would crack that coin out of the crappy holder and keep it raw.

You may have paid a bit much, but it is still a nice coin.

i agree. if it were me and i wanted a 66 i would shop for one already slabbed by one of the top three tpg's.

A little on the high end, but it has a nice strong reverse I would say, so I would go 64 on it. A nice Morgan to say the least, but I would crack that puppy out of there, GEC isn't very reputable among dealers, tend to grade a bit high, but atleast you didn't shell out to much for it. A very nice addition to your collection I would say. :thumb:

Well, you get what you pay for. From the pics, it appears to be around MS64. I would suggest staying away from GEC and any other TPG other than NGC, PCGS, ANACS, or ICG. All the other companies are way to liberal, with the possible exception of PCI.
