    It's an interesting feature, but thinking further on this one I don't think a date punch created this. The look is entirely different for RPDs or even overdates. Most likely an interesting die chip spanning the length of the "1" digit.

    Apparently the entire surface is eroded. It may just be a part of the surface that has not eroded.
