i reacently sorted a collection for a friend that included sever thousand wheat cents. while looking through the 1943 cents i found several 1943 cents with a missing 4. could anyone tell e why the 4 is missing. is it a clogged die or something else? any help would be appreciated.

My first guess would be a filled die.

    greased/clogged die.
    Very common on steel cents.
    Not much added value.

    Only a few wheats?

    "several thousand wheat cents"?

You guys have your work cut out for you searching for the key coins and the myriad or errors you could unearth.

Oh, I didn't mean to get you started on a big project.:p

    not much

I've been buying 5000 count bags since the mid 90's. Must have close to $500 in wheats alone. Maybe one day I'll have the time to look at them. I just buy and throw the bags in the closet. Maybe some day in the distant future those bags will be worth something. Wish I had kids. No one in my family is interested in coins. When I die most likely they will just be sold back to the bank. BTW. not plannig on going anywhere soon :)
