Here are some bargain bin coins I have dredged up this week. I was able to identify them except the possible colonial coin, but I have no idea of their values. If anyone is familiar with 18th century coins or their values let me know. The first is a 1719 Danish Half Skilling of Frederick IV The second is an undated East India company coin, from Zeeland. The third is a 1799 French Centime (the seven is so faint you can only see it under the brightest of lights from an oblique angle) Next a Canadian large cent, 1876 H, not sure how I started getting canadian large cents but I have a nice collection of them now. Finally is a possible colonial coin, it has George III on the obv and Britan nia on the Reverse. It weighs in at 6.13g and is between 28 and 29 mm in diameter. Can you believe that all these came out of a 6 for a $1 bargain box.
Awesome finds!!! The 1775 specimen does not meet Vlack 4-75A (W-7780) diagnostics pursuant to Machin's Mills issues. I can look this one up in Breen's later.
This specimen also did not meet any of diagnostics in Breen's; Breen also only lists the Vlack 4-75A (W-7780) for 1775. I was unable to find any other 1775 U.S. Colonial evasions / contemporary counterfeits. I dug up an image from Spinks that shows a regal halfpenny. I sort of suspect that your coin may be an evasion. Brittania and the lines in her shield look a bit funny to me. Per diagnostics, the way that the shield lines look can be an indicator of an evasion. Photo Courtesy Stack's, CoinArchives.com As per your Danish 1/2 Skilling specimen, I checked a vendor's pricing in Norway, and they have a 1- grade (ab. VG) listed at NOK 250 (ab. US 42.25.) That said, I think your specimen is a nice catch, even though it's not quite VG grade. Hope this helps!
