This is the last of the FUN Show acquisitions. When I was purging my type set of lower grade slabbed coins and raw coins, the Barber Dime in PCGS MS-61 got the heave-ho. This is the replacement. I've shown both my photos and the PCGS TrueView since it doesn't show the slab scuffs and I think shows the coin more accurately than my admittedly poor photos. Mine shows the color more accurately. This is a flashy white proof example.
Nice example. I've wondered why Barber decided to re-engrave the reverse for 1900. One of my notions is that he got sick of seeing that gouge in the corn husk, which was on the master since 1892. You can see it clearly on this one.
Part of me feels bad, because once you see it, you can't unsee it. At least you know it's not PMD. In hand it's probably hardly visible. Proof coins seem to have stronger ones. I wonder if TPGs have ever dinged a grade because of it. Anyway, sorry for the distraction.
That dime is beautiful. Great upgrade. Do you have a picture of the 61 you got rid of to see the comparison?
