She's seen circulation but that a great Cud! Right at the date but the date is still readable. Fantastic!

    I'm not 100% sure that's a cud. I'm not even like 50% sure.
In fact, I'm like 99% sure it isn't.
See how there is matching bumps on both like 5 and 7 o'clock as well as 11 and 1?
I think your coin was encased in something.

yeah, I am not certain.... hence the question mark lol.

Maybe a repair job from many moons ago? The rim has a bulge at the “cud”. And the coin is sorta flat at exactly 12 o’clock.

Shoot, I was replying as you were editing and we were saying the same thing :)

I remember picking this sucker out of a penny jar when I was roughly 5. I picked it specifically because it would be my first coin from the 1800s.

Why are there denticals on the cud. Looks more like glue.
It looks like a transparent cud.

Well to these eyes I'm seeing an ddo ! Look at the lettering of America..and no it isn't Longacer doubling,or Md. This same style doubling can be found on half dimes and nickel lll cent pcs.
    Correct eagle eye is back...:cigar:

I dont see it any where else. Perfectly placed hit/scratch on that A?

I see your orginial full off. Looks as the F AMER looks split dead on shot yes a hit on the A. The 99 looks repunched.

I am having a hard time seeing any cuds on the coin. A cud that bigg would have left a weakness on the opposite side of the reverse.

I will leave the variety and Hawk eying to the king around here.

    Maybe some old silver solder?

Whatever it is, to me it looks added.

I think so too. On the edge, there seems to be a finite ridge. But on the obverse, the transition is worn smooth.

The images are hard to read from the first images, at first glance this looked to be a ddo to me but the more you study this piece the more you question.
The S isn't a repunch mm and if it were 99 S are known for MD on the mint mark.I am leaning now towards silver solder. Just a hard call not having it in hand.
