Got this in the mail today... it is my first of this type of NGC holder. The reverse is AMAZING!

I've noticed a lot of gold coins from the late 1890s have a really nice deep rich color

News flash, jwitten: The whole coin is amazing. :)

That'd probably be a 62 today, maybe 63. Heck, I think it was undergraded for the era of the slab.

That's one great looking deep colored Gold coin you picked up! Nice old older but under-graded. Love that reverse. :)

Thatll upgrade. :). I took one of those with me in an old slab like that to get it regraded by NGC on site at an ANA show once. It went from a 60 to a 62 in the new slab. Probably could've went 63 but they stopped there. Not uncommon for these to be under graded in the old slabs. Looks great.

    Here's mine before and after:

This Liberty looks like she disapproves whatever she sees. Maybe she is right.

Nice coins, @jwitten and @Vess1! Both are definitely way, way better than MS60. :)

A very nice 60 coin...;)They don't grade em like they used to.

Compared to the OP's coin, Liberty's cheek is much clearer. As this is a prime focal area, I can see why NGC upgraded your coin. Not so sure about the OP's coin... she looks a bit beaten up ;-)

@jwitten I also thought more than 60. Since you like the holder why not have it sent to JA for the gold bean? Gold bean coins seem to be going for moon money right now.

Yeah I kinda see your point. I just posted mine as an example of what the graders thought in a similar situation. The reverse is about the same.
