1897 Morgan VAM J Mark on bottom of Ear ?

    I 'm not sure what to make of this mark I took the picture using a digital microscope. Would like your opinion of what I have found on a 1897 Morgan dollar right about at the bottom of the ear but I don't beleive is a J VAM mark but

    The J mark die scratch (on VAM 6A) is a little lower down on the ear and more towards your left. See the image here: VAMworld - 1897-P VAM-1A

    Imo, the circled area on your coin just looks like a light hit to me. Is the reverse pitted by the wreath?

    It's hard to tell. The enlargement doesn't show enough detail and is a little blurry. My gut reaction based on the gouge to the left is that it is post-mint damage.
