I just got back from finishing my xmas shopping and i hit the coin shop on the way home, he had a nice 1896 morgan dollar not "O" and i would say ist between AU and BU, very nice bright silver its in a plastic coin round. He said its $50, i am checking on ebay and it seems like there are a few that are just as nice for alot less. What do you think?

    hemi,

I can usually pick them up all day long for $20 to $25 unless they are exceptionally high BU's! The 1896-P Morgan is a common Date and only brings high prices for high grade specimens.

$50 would be a little high, even if it were MS-64.
    Find a little better dealer.
    ;)

its the dealer that my mother uses in her jewlery business, she has silver money clips with morgans set into it, among others as well

Its my guess that she's paying too much for the coins as well. I could make a suggestion but I very much dislike mixing coins and jewelry so I wont encourage it.

Unless you can barter with him a little bit, I would pass. Sometimes those prices though aren't set in stone, if you are respectful and all, then some dealers love a good bartering session. :thumb:

Hemi, don't buy the coin and don't use the dealer. Find a real coin dealer or buy third party graded coins from an internet dealer.

i would ask him to cut the price a little if i were you. he might not realize he is asking way too much for it.
