I don't know much about Canadian Cents so I'm turning to y'all for help. I'm curious if this is the far date or regular date variety. I know the coin isn't in too good of condition because of the Verdigras. If it did not have that it wouldn't be a bad coin for its age. I may pick up some verdicare and try it on it. I bought some coins, mostly for the silver content, and there were some non silver extras thrown in which included this coin. Here are some pictures.
It most definitely NOT a far date, not even close. In 1896, the last digit was handpunched into each working die. As such, there are as many space placements for the 6 as there were working dies used .. probably 30-40 dies. You find the 6's with all kinds of gaps and high/low and canted CW or CCW. Most certifying companies have stopped calling anything a far 6 .. .how far is far? The initial coin that was cert'd as the first one cert'd was very very far right, was high and canted CCW. Why Trends even still lists it is beyond me ... Charlton quit listing it 3-4 years ago. Under that green on your coin will be pitting and corrosion. Just keep it as a neat 120 year old coin.
