I'm gonna guess VF25, dipped. Redbook lists $600 in VF20. I doubt you'd get that for that coin though.
Dipped means the coin was put in a cleaning solution. It removes the toning. It's a way of cleaning coins without using abrasives or rubbing it. Problem is, much like cleaning, dipping often damages the coin, robbing it of luster and detracting from its value. A 116 year old coin with that much wear will usually display some type of toning. Now the 1895 O Morgan is still a desirable key date coin, if genuine. Only way to find out what you could get for it is to list it on eBay as a pure auction with no reserve and let 'er rip! My guess is you'd get between $200-300 for that coin, assuming it's genuine. Here's one on ebay that 's similiar to yours. Looks VF/XF cleaned with a scratch. BIN is $250. http://cgi.ebay.com/LOOK-1895-O-Mor...11?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item33692f84fb
Wow I bought it for 350$ thinking it was in good shape and didn't see anything that would make me think it was cleaned
We all learn one coin at a time. Don't take it too hard, hold onto it long enough and you may well make your money back on it. They aren't making any more of them.
I agree with the VF25. And you are right, they aren't making any more and the value will likely go up.
