Good Day. I have an 1895 NEW GUINEA 20 mark Gold Coin for sale left to me by my mother who passed away last year. It is original, not a copy - Also where could I find out more about the number minted and history of this coin? If you don't know the answers - perhaps you could put me in contact with someone who can? Where do you suggest I try to sell it? I would appreciate any help you could give. Kind Regards, Andrew Wilson
There were 1,500 minted. These are widely faked, so I would recommend that you have it certified by a reputable third party grading service before attempting to sell it. I would also suggest that no one buy a coin like this, unless it has been certified as genuine by a reputable third party grading service.
Where did you find the information? I have hunted high and low in the 19th Century Krause, with no success
It's on page 922, top left corner of the 3rd Edition 19th Century Krause. And I'd agree with Jody - it needs to be authenticated. Krause value is over $12,000.00 But I gotta say - if that coin is a fake - it's the best dang fake I've ever seen. rafikicat2004 - You take care of that coin - don't touch it without clean cotton gloves on your hands. And get it authenticated - immediately.
