1895 MS63 DMPL. I was told this was a business strike. Is that not correct? How can I tell? I'm new to this and got in a little over my head and I think I may have gotten ripped off. Please let me know what you think this is worth.
I only see a red X. I have been having PC problems, but I don't see any picture. Is it an 1895-P, and not an O or S? In 1895, Philadelphia only struck PROOF Morgans. There were no circulation/business strikes.
http://www.leepedrazas.com/morgan.html That's a 1885, big difference!! It's graded by PCGS, so no problem there. It is a business strike.
I'm working on getting thos pics up. I'm getting only a red x too. Whoops!! Yes, it is NOT an 1895. It is 1885. Silly of me. I think I overpayed and now I'm a little bit flustered.
You bought a MS63 DMPL Morgan in an OGH. There are many that think that those were undergraded, which is not always the case. The price guides all say $95 for that coin, but obviously there were a lot of others that bid that were thinking the coin might upgrade. If you bought it for yourself and not to resale I don't see a problem. It's a beautiful coin. But I suggest that next time you do some research before you buy.
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but PCGS themselves, on their website, claims your coin is worth $90. Further, most coin collectors consider PCGS' quoted prices to be somewhat inflated. I know it's a rather bitter pill to swallow but the medicine thereby taken is all the more effective in the future.
Thanks to all. I may end up trying to sell this and taking a loss. I'm having a lot of buyer's remorse.
You can't return a coin just because you decided you paid too much for it, and in a PCGS slab there's no way to contest the stated condition of the coin. On the bright side, there's very little on Earth (to my mind) more beautiful than a DMPL Morgan, and you can't create one with Jeweluster. If you choose to resell the coin, lee7462, consider another selling venue or wait until your particular auction is no longer linked in your feedback, in a couple months. In the meantime, you've wandered into one of the most knowledgeable communities of coin collectors you could ever ask for. You can ask anyone just about anything here and receive a genuine expert answer. In my short time here I've been really impressed by the quality of the folks at Coin Talk, as I'm sure you will be.
