About 6 years ago, I found an 1895-0 Dollar at a flea market, got it for $10, so I was happy. It's only in VG condition, so at the time I guesstimated its value at around $75. I've gotten back to coins more lately and I find price guide listings for it at $250+ now in VG. Is this for real, or is this a case of price guide overi-nflation? Anybody who can give me a realistic estimate of its value, many thanks.
I was given a nice collection recently by my dad and it has an 1895-O Morgan. The previous owner had it listed as VF, but to mye eyes that's a stretch. With a mintage of only 450K, it's a nice peice. From what I've read here, some of what appears as wear could be due to a week strike, common for that mint. VF is listed as 475 by the red book.
Can you post some photos???...I'm not sure how hard it would be to fake that date...I wouldn't think too hard and since its a harder date I'm sure that there is a chance. Anyway....before we can say a value for sure I think it would be best if you could post photos of both sides. Thanks Speedy
About 3 years ago I also found an 1895-O but in G-4 condition and bought it for $25. Even at that time it was a good find. To answer your question, your VG-8 Morgan 1895-O is actually worth closer to $300-$350.
