I noticed the date is re-punched on my 1894 Indian cent. Does anyone have an estimate of the value? I'll probably sell it and get a replacement. It has a big gouge in it though....
That's definitely the Snow-1 1894/1894, a very popular IHC RPD. Yours has that unfortunate strike in the legend, so that will affect value. It's a toughie to grade from your pic because it will depend on the detail in LIBERTY and the headband. Here's the grading guide I use, written by Rick Snow (pdf).
Kirk: Nice RPD. And that is the popular one. However, with that damage, the value is open to negotiation.
It's important to be sure that; what you call damage, it's not a Die clash. because instead of have less value this will work in the other way to a higher price
Carlos; There ain't no way that is a die clash on the CA of AMERICA. A dig into the coin is a better description.
:thumb: yep--agreed: it goes from the hair curls to the denticles, and clashes are raised markings. For IHCs, the only common mint-made mark in denticles are rim cuds, die cracks, and MPDs--did I miss anything?
Frank and Kurts, your are right. And also the price of the coin has relation with the BEAUTY of the coin itself.
