These are 2 different links to photos of this old coin.
Does anyone know what the value would be?

Hello, I've been searching for one of these forever...I used to own one...but had to give it up, as it was only on a '30 day viewing period' and I couldn't afford the $40 at the time.

    It's going for $38 on ebay...and this price guide says it's $48 for a BU example...but only $20 for a AU example.

Looking at the pic...what is it...BU or AU?

    Cheers.

Seems quite worn in the hair maybe...but you lot know more than me.

For that price you should be able to find a lot better example. That is way too much to pay for a circulated piece, which I believe this is. A nice BU should cost around $25 to $35.

    it looks cleaned to me...
The detail on the obverse is so muddy and flat, its probably an XF that has been dipped out.
but even if it was unc it would only be worth about $24.00-$30.00
Au is around $12, XF and lower should be around $9
the only columbians that go for $40+ are nice, and you need to have spectacular ones to go for $$$

Hmmm, I'd say about $20.00 if your lucky.

The coin has au/ms details, however it has been cleaned. As for the hair, I don't think it ever comes much more defined then that.

I would say it looks cleaned and is worth about $12

    I''ll leave it then :D

Only 4 on UK ebay...all pretty expensive.

I had no idea it was cleaned...what give it away?

    I would tend to agree.
Even though this is the first commemorative and old, they are plentiful.
At least they are in Southern New England. I got one on eBay last spring for about $8.00 in AU-50.
    The 2006 Redbook lists AU-50 at $16.00.

I have an 1892 and 1893 both in AU condition.I took these pics of the '92 specifically to emphasize the detail. This is about the maximum you'll see.The hair is almost fully defined on a good strike except for the very center of his head.(click the photos a second time to see the full details) I think I paid about $25 for this one.

The luster of the coin is not what it should be. It has a greyish look to it which to me indicates the coin was rubbed with something. Sorry for the vague explanation. I would recommend trying to find a picture of a columbian in high grade in a pcgs, ngc, anacs holder and compare the look of the two coins.

I have a similar one and in that condition it would most likely look something like this (uncleaned).
