1893 Canadian penny, and 1901 Canadian nickel.

    Got this 1893 penny for $3 and the nickel for $8. Good deal? how much?

    Maybe a good deal. By about $3. Is the cent painted or plated around the ONE CENT 1893?

    Looks like some laquer-type liquid to preserve it.

    Price was about right for both.
    I personnally would soak the cent in acetone and see if you can dissolve the stuff on the reverse. REMEMBER DO NOT RUB WITH ANYTHING - JUST SOAK

    I was thinking about doing that. Is there any other chemical that would work?

    I don't think I would try anything else. Acetone is fairly inert...most chemicals will react too much with the coin.
