The condition isn't very pretty (I grade it generously as an AG-3) but it's a nice, rare date. Any suggestion on what to do with a coin like this, maybe how to protect it from further wear/damage? Right now I keep it in a flip. Just not sure what to do.

It's not much to look at, but I think it's cool because it's a rare date and I got it at melt in a lot of Morgans from eBay. It has character, IMO.

    Thanks for looking.

A flip is okay for that coin IF it's a PVC-free flip.
How do you tell the difference?
PVC flips are nice and bendy.
PVC-free flips almost feel like they'll crack if you bend them too much.

    Also a 2x2 is okay.
Just watch the staples; they can scratch coins.

And an Air-Tite for dollar coins is good too.

I like very worn or damaged or holed coins that are rare. It's nice to be able to own an example of the coin at low cost regardless of condition. Put it in a black ring airtite and retire it from circulation with dignity.

Nothing wrong with that coin - and I like airtites also.
