my most recent purchace. Can anyone give me an unbiast grade opinion? the obverse shows wear on the cheeks and hair while the reverse has full globes and partial sail lines. Im thinking i got a awsome deal but would apreciate someone elses opinion. http://home.comcast.net/~r_hendryx/images/coxpo ob.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~r_hendryx/images/coxop re.jpg
I agree. This is a great example of what happens when someone tries to "improve" a coin with a wire brush. I could probably live with the marks in the fields, but the scratches on Chris' cheek take off at least one grade level IMHO.
$12.00 from a local shop, its not the best example ive seen, but its the best ive been able to get my hands on for a reasonable price.
Well, to be perfectly honest, you could have done better. Now please don't take that as a smart remark, but rather as a word to the wise, and always remember that it doesn't matter what others think about your coins, it's what you think that counts.
I just got one that is in just about the same condition, except mine is an 1893 and "nice and white". (Yup, whizzed and dipped) I paid $9.50, which I think is still a little on the high side due to being a cleaned coin, but I am satisfied with it and that is what really matters.
no offense taken, I probably could have done better, But it was there around the price i was willing to pay for it, and i had the cash in my pocket. An impulse buy- probably, but i had been eying this type for awhile, and now i can mark it off my list.
Don't forget that the 1892 Columbian Expo $1/2 is actually quite a common coin, despite the mintage figure.I was able to get one for less than NZ$20.It is a nice coin.Pity that the Isabella $1/4 is so rare,as that is a very attractive design for an American coin. Aidan.
AU@$5 is definately a good deal. I bought one off ebay about two years ago for about $5.50 with shipping and it is in real nice circulated condition. Funny thing was after my auction the seller only listed them with a starting price of $7 without shipping!!
Very Rare. Palindrome, the Isabella $1/4 is an example of a coin that you have to really dig deep - to the tune of several thousand US dollars. It is the only American coin that depicts a European (or any other foreign) monarch. Aidan.
The isabella quarter dollar minted in 1893 in philidelphia. 40,000 minted about 20,000 distributed. designed by Charles E. Barber. The first U.S coin to depict a foreign matriarch also the first commemorative quarter dollar. l like I said its on my wishlist
That is quite interesting. I had never heard of the Isabella quarter dollar until recently in point of fact.
You Mean Like This Talking about the Isabella Qtr made me pull out mine - I havent looked at it in awhile. I also re-looked at my Hawaiian Quarter - been awhile. Just wanted to share.
