i see something on this coin in the area of where a MM would be. not sure what. any opinions?

yes, I see an S there.

The question is whether it was from a greased die, or some one screwing around.

Remember the rule:

Rule #1) Take the coin OUT of the holder before taking pictures.

Rule #2: See Rule #1.

 

I as well see what looks like an "s," however it is just toning that can also be seen on the tail of the eagle.
