So, being a normal position slant date this should be a vam 10 right but it doesn't quite match it or any of the "far" slant date vams either. Am I missing something?
@Cascade If you are trying to compare your coin to all of the photos that are posted on the VW listing for the VAM-10, you are making a big mistake. Because the VW site uses a wiki-based protocol, it means that any VW member can post their photos whether they are pertinent or not. Some of them may be photos of differing die states, but sometimes the individual posting them doesn't have the slightest idea which and all they succeed in doing is confusing the attribution process. It's unfortunate, but some people just like to "see their name in lights". Chris
VAM 10 and 23 are both candidates based on the descriptions. Can't see the 8 on your coin clearly enough, but I can see where there might be repunching there. When in doubt, I always limit myself to the descriptions and whatever photos Leroy Van Allen has taken. Lately, he has been adding descriptions of die markers when his listings refer to exactly one die pair, which is helpful. As Chris said, there are some pictures that aren't quite right. There are also inconsistencies here and there with the threshold of what is and isn't a far date.
How did I pass that one. See, that's what I get for vamming on my phone. Looks like you called it dave. Also looks like my coin could be a good candidate to add to the 23 page! Chris, yes I'm all too familiar with the bane of vw being a wiki. Actually, I know at least one vammer on this forum that left contributing to vw a while ago due to this
Well, now you know two! By the way, I'm glad that John @messydesk chimed in because I trust his opinions without question. Chris
I second that. We double posted and I'm just now seeing his post. He'll probably see this one in hand anyway. I think having his sticker on a slab can only help it.
