I purchased this one - 1891S. Can anyone give me a grade on this one. See pics.

    Also:

I am just starting to collect Morgan coins... (S) coins. I noticed the 1892-S Morgan is quite pricey. I also noticed people on Ebay asking over 2 grand for that coin year with the (S) with hardly no detail. Is that unreasonable to spend two grand for a coin with hardly no detail?

    Thanks.

So far it seems I am purchasing in the AU-55 group of coins.

    Thank you.

    Hi, Eve!

You're going to find that several of the San Francisco minted Morgans start to get rather pricey in MS grades: 1883-S, 1884-S, 1892-S, 1893-S, 1895-S, 1903-S & 1904-S. The 1893-S is considered by many to be the "King of the Morgan Dollars" because of its scarcity. There were only about 100,000 struck, and none were ever found in the Treasury releases of the 60' & 70's.

It goes without saying that you shold use extreme caution when considering purchase of any of these coins on eBay. There have been so many, many cases of counterfeit, doctored, photoshopped and/or switched coins that most veteran collectors will tell you not to buy any of them raw on eBay.

As a general rule, it is best not to buy any raw coin on eBay unless you know the seller. You can't always depend on feedback ratings to provide an accurate assessment of a selller, either. If you find a seller who is offering many of his/her pricier coins ungraded, then there is probably something wrong with the coins which the seller may be trying to hide.

Thanks Chris for the above info. On Ebay... I have been taken on a couple of coins... out there... where they describe it one way and show a picture a different way. ;(
