I was diging around some coins i have been waiting to look over and found some odditys in this morgan dollar. Seeing as I am not a variety expert as of yet. I was wondering if anyone had any idea what VAM this one is.

In the following pics youll see to close up under a microscope that are cracks/splits or maybe some sorta of debris on the die. Hard to discribe. :) One of the pic is a full scan with to help show where the marks are.

http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l67/StripedBass/Morgan1891pstrangecrack.jpg you can see in this one that the marks run UNDER the leafs and just under the tail fethers.

Any help with and ID would be great. And if thee pics dont help. I can always try to take better ones/ lol

Looks post mint to me man, but I could be way wrong, no expert by any standards. But that's my opinion.

At first glance I thought post mint as well but the incuse runs under the leaf from under the tail fethers. The other incuse runs from reath to the edge of the ( I ) in united.

After doing some research I have come to beleive that these marks are from a Rough Planchet. Would anyone agree?

i think it looks like a planchet flaw cause they are inline and the devices are on top of them. nice find

Could be a lamination error. Maybe a strike through error.

Either way, errors are not VAMs and VAMs are not errors.

indeed a vam is not an error. I know this. But to me these marks seem more like an error then a VAM. I asked if its a vam because I wanted to rule VAM out. Then move on to type of error.
