I’ve had this 1890-CC since I was a Kid (and remember buying because well CC is a cool. Anyways I was looking at today and the Mint Mark seems strange . I brought it from a reliable dealer raw (It was the early day of TPG) and I would like to get some insight if it something wrong (fake added mintmark ), something cool (VAM ) or just my eyes and being the only CC I have. T
looks normal to me don't collect VAMS so i don't know about that /your last picture is very fuzzy and unfocused.
All Morgan and Peace dollars are VAM's. Your coin is pretty worn, but the mintmark doesn't look unusual to me. Here is the link so you can compare it to others. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1890-CC_VAMs
All Morgan and Peace dollars are VAM's, there are 18 listed for this date and MM. Your images make it impossible to see the die markers and die cracks, doubling etc. As you have it in hand check it against these http://vamworld.com/wiki/1890-CC_VAMs Sorry @cpm9ball just saw you replied before me
Leroy C. Van Allen and A. George Mallis published a work where they identified some Peace and Morgan dollars in an almost microscopic way, hence VAM
No need to apologize. Heck, a lot of times I get beaten out because I can't type for beans. So, I proof read everything because I HATE to misspell words.
Thanks I had the mistake impression that there was regular dies and VAM . The second C look a little smaller and higher then the first which got my eye but as long as it is a Real Carson City Morgan I am Happy
Even before that, Leroy was doing all the catalog updating. There wasn't a lot of this sort of activity between the 2nd (1976) and 3rd (1991) editions. Things picked up a lot of steam in 1997 when the Top 100 book came out.
Your photos are out of focus so difficult to enlarge but the CC looks normal to me. Are you allowing for the circulation wear and tear?
